The Lincoln Project is Propaganda

Sometimes I think about creating a catchy title, but I couldn't think of anything more catchy than the truth in this matter. The Lincoln Project, a PAC in part created by gross racists and Islamophobes and touted by Never Trumper Bill Kristol who has championed the failed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is a whitewashing of the Conservative politics leading us to Trump.

The website for The Lincoln Project states they are "Dedicated Americans Protecting Democracy". Their mission is that while they have ideological differences from the Democrats, they still want to defeat Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box come November. From their site:

However, the priority for all patriotic Americans must be a shared fidelity to the Constitution and a commitment to defeat those candidates who have abandoned their constitutional oaths, regardless of party. Electing Democrats who support the Constitution over Republicans who do not is a worthy effort.

Trump has skirted the Constitution since he started in office, though personally that shows more issues with the Constitution and its supposed built in protections Ms. Brown taught me about in 5th grade social studies class. Considering the PATRIOT act and the Authorized Use of Military Force act, I don't think as a country we have a morality leg to stand on regarding the rules we set forth for ourselves.

Voicing my distaste for The Lincoln Project on twitter, I'm often told that the enemy of your enemy is your friend. That I can fight against the GOP once Trump and Trumpism are defeated by the Democrat version of a bumbling old guy who won't improve anything. But is Trump really the enemy, or is he just one head of the hydra?

Conservatives have this uncanny ability to plan thirty years into the future, but also be incredibly reactionary. Stacking federal judges for decades to come, but also flaring up overfunded PACs to steal content online for le epic memes. The calls are to stop Trump, but there's no examination on how Trump was allowed to happen. How years of austerity, of stripping away social safety nets, and never improving the material wealth of the population could have led to the rise of fascism in America.

To be an American is to be a ball of stress every day because something as simple as tripping and injuring yourself could mean thousands in medical debt, even with insurance. At any time, you can lose your job and be without the insurance, without the income and become homeless. Do you think Trump did this, or do you know these things have been happening under republicans and democrats for decades?

Of course you know why the Lincoln Project doesn't do any kind of self reflection. It's not the Constitution they are concerned about, it's being embarrassed and losing American Exceptionalism. Trump has exposed to us and the world that the world doesn't need the United States, and would probably be better off without us shitting up the world economy in four years.

And then you have to ask who exactly would they like better? Tom Cotton, who wrote one of the most fascist things penned in 2020 and was featured in the New York Times to send in soldiers to quell the protests? Ted Cruz, a man who was roundly insulted personally by Trump and now carries water for him like a kicked dog with no where else to go?

I've seen some bright eyed young conservatives talk about Nikki Haley, former SC governor and former UN Ambassador. I wonder if she would be a good pick now that she has gone full Trumper, stating that the president has always been "truthful".

If there is one real danger the Lincoln Project creates, it's pulling Democrats further to the right. Despite the stated goals of the Lincoln Project, Trumpism isn't going away, it will simply evolve again. The TEA party pulled the GOP right, and now it's a tug of war in which one side has Boaters in MAGA hats who love to do racism and the other has Bill Krisol halfheartedly pulling, but also singing praises of Ronald Reagan (who also had a pretty bad response to a pandemic but for some reason that does't seem to come up)

The Enemy of my Enemy is still my Enemy. We agree that Trump is a detriment to this country, but we agree on it for different reasons, and the Lincoln Project is nothing but propaganda to one day clean the stain of Trump from the GOP with the (very willing) help of the Democrats. They've already made Reagan and Bush Jr. into heroes of leadership for centrist dems, it's not going to be too hard to rewrite the history of the GOP under their noses.

Especially when Democrats are eagerly handing them the pen
